MQ369267_942longOver 500 pre-1905 vehicles are expected for the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run which allows vintage car enthusiasts from all over the UK and beyond to enjoy a picturesque drive down to the south coast, through some of Britain’s loveliest scenery. It’s also a bit of a spectacle. These 500 or so fine examples of pre-1905 cars make the 60 mile drive from Hyde Park in central London to the Brighton seafront in Sussex. The day before the run, on Saturday 1st November, more than 100 of these beautiful old cars parade up and down Regent Street as part of The Regent Street Motor Show. You can get up and close to view them and its absolutely free of charge. This annual event has taken place every November to commemorate the Emancipation Run of 1896, celebrating the passing into law of the ‘Locomotives on the Highway Act’. This raised the speed limit from 4mph to 14mph and meant that cars no longer had to travel with a man walking in front. The tradition continues to today with cars leaving from Serpentine Road, exiting Hyde Park at Apsley Gate from 6.58am. It’s a great event for anyone who’s into motoring and kids love these wonderful old classic cars too.
