The world-renowned Cheddar Gorge is one of the UK’s most spectacular natural locations.

From awesome underground caverns like Gough’s Cave and Cox’s Cave to breath-taking cliff-top walks the gorge features seven great attractions.

Visitors can discover all about our ancient ancestors in the Cheddar Man – Museum of Prehistory, climb the 274 steps to enjoy extraordinary views from the Lookout Tower or hop on the Gorge Tour Open-Top Bus for a fascinating guided journey.

Youngsters can even embark on an underground adventure in the Crystal Quest!

CHEDDAR GORGE

Explore Britain’s biggest gorge from top to bottom. As well as being a National Nature Reserve, this world-famous beauty spot is also an international centre for caving and rock climbing.

The gorge reveals many fascinating stories of our prehistoric ancestors, and is a haven for wildlife including the UK’s largest colony of endangered greater horseshoe bats, majestic peregrine falcons and water voles in their millpond homes.

Cheddar Gorge offers a great day out for groups requiring outdoor adventures or schools studying nature, history or geology.

CHEDDAR CAVES

Experience two of Britain’s most spectacular underground natural wonders.

Gough’s Cave – Discover the breath-taking splendour of Britain’s most beautiful stalactite cavern where Cheddar Man, Britain’s oldest skeleton, was found. Audio guides bring the cave to life for kids and adults, telling the fascinating story of its Ice Age creation, Stone Age occupation and Victorian exploration.

Cox’s Cave – A shimmering, brilliantly-coloured underground sanctuary with fantastic calcite sculptures, dancing fountains, mirror pools and music evocative of a more spiritual world. A striking contrast to Gough’s Cave, kids love to follow the Crystal Quest and meet the Lord of Darkness and his evil dragon.

 CHEDDAR X-TREME

Climb the dramatic cliffs rising 450ft towards the sky or journey underground to explore the stunning stalactite subterranean caverns.

Join our team of highly trained guides for a real caving expedition deep inside the Mendip Hills, with climbs, crawls and squeezes.

Or experience the ultimate introduction to rock climbing. Start with an easy climb and see how quickly you progress on our 50ft cliff face in this world-class centre for climbers. All activities are suitable for beginners.

Cheddar is open daily at 10am except Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.  There is a price freeze for pre-booked groups of 12 or more people to Cheddar and Longleat throughout 2012.
