Coventry Cathedral - An Icon of Peace and Hope and a breathtaking Casket of Jewels

Date:April 26, 2018 2:47 pm

For a thousand years, Coventry has been a place of pilgrimage where visitors are greeted with a warm welcome, and this continues within Coventry Cathedral today.

You will begin your visit by exploring the evocative ruins of the old Cathedral, famously destroyed during WWII, and the symbolic works of art housed within.

For those of you who are feeling energetic why not climb our magnificent tower (the third largest in England no less!) for a magnificent view of Coventry and surrounding areas. Once you are back on Terra Firms your group will then follow Basil Spence’s vision into the New Cathedral, taking in one of the most significant collections of artworks from the 1950’s and 60’s.

As you continue down the stairs you will find St. Michael’s Gallery which houses a treasure trove of Cathedral artefacts and memorabilia, and our highly acclaimed Rising from the Rubble café where you can sample a range of meals, light bites, and delicious cakes (and we’re not biased at all!)

In order to really bring the building to life, we highly recommend taking a guided tour from one of our experienced and enthusiastic guides, many of whom have been a part of the Cathedral community for many years.

Alternatively should you wish to self guide, we sell a range of maps and guidebooks which give plenty more information, and can be purchased at the Welcome Desk.

No visit to the Cathedral would be complete without picking up a souvenir of your time here from our gift shop, located in St. Michael’s Gallery, which sells a range of Cathedral books and gifts

As the UK’s favourite 20th Century building, Coventry Cathedral is a remarkable and inspiring place to visit and we would love to welcome you.
