National Mining Museum Scotland is a 5 star visitor attraction housed in the wonderfully restored Lady Victoria Colliery, the finest surviving Victorian colliery in Europe and the only A-listed colliery buildings in Scotland.

The Story of Coal Exhibition – Your experience begins with coals creation in the Carboniferous period 360 million years ago and follows human efforts to extract it from the earth from the 13th century to modern times.

A Race Apart Exhibition – Find out what life was like, at home and at work, for the miners and their families in Scotland’s mining communities.

Winding Engine – See Scotland’s large steam engine which hauled men and coal up and down the pit shaft for nearly 90 years and is still in working order.

Pithead Tour – Take a tour of the pithead and experience the atmosphere and noise of a working pit with the personal insights and anecdotes of our guides, all of whom are ex-miners.

Big Stuff Massive Mining Machinery Tour – Marvel at the 40 foot coal shearer, the massive winding engine from Fancis Colliery, underground carriages, cages, locomotives and much more!

Facilities also include FREE car/coach parking, licenced cafe, disabled access, Mining Mechanics Interactive Zone, Mini Miners Soft Play, Special Exhibition Gallery, outdoor play area and picnic areas.
