The one-hour and 10 minute steam train journey between Kidderminster and Bridgnorth in period carriages hauled by historic steam locomotives, with stops at the delightful ‘time-warp’ stations of Bewdley, Arley, Highley and Hampton Loade, remains the railway’s main showcase.

The Engine House, Visitor & Education Centre, Set in the heart of the Shropshire countryside at Highley, The Engine House contains the Severn Valley Railways reserve collection of steam locomotives and other displays connected with the Railway and its important place in railway preservation.

Our new Group Travel information pack for 2013 for visits to the railway and the Engine House is now out. The pack is full of fantastic ideas for days out for groups. The popular combined visits are back for another year with Blists Hill at Ironbridge called ‘Victorian and Steam’, Choc and Steam with Cadbury World is must for all chocolate lovers along with combined visits to the Black Country Living Museum. We have also joined forces with West Midlands Safari Park appropriately named Wild Tracks and also Bewdley Museum where you can explore the town and its history.

The views from the first floor of Flag & Whistle Food Stop at the Engine House are breathtaking. From here you can see the trains go by whilst enjoying a snack or light meal or arrange pre-booked catering for your group. On a fine day the outdoor picnic area is a great place to linger and, to complete the experience; a well-stocked gift shop is also available. Facilities for the disabled visitors are also catered for.

All Severn Valley Railway trains stop at Highley station, which is a five-minute walk to The Engine House.

Some of our special events which play an important part in the railways calendar are the 1940’s before the summer and the Santa Steam Specials at Christmas.  New events for this year Both of these events are popular with groups who come year on year.
