On this day in 1736 celebrated architect Sir Nicholas Hawksmoor died. Although he’s best known for his work with Sir Christopher Wren, did you know he also spent time in Yorkshire building all sorts of things?!

Including this - the obelisk in Ripon’s market square. It was installed in 1702 and stands 80 feet high.
